One Afghani emigrant struggles with the tension between remaining connected to his homeland, in a very concrete way, or maintaining his separation. I am forever drawn to family as a recurring central theme of my writing. It enjoyed a quiet early life, and was republished in 1800 with a huge Preface by Wordsworth in which he laid out many of his deep convictions and insightful observations on what the art of poetry is, has been, and what it ought to be. The book's foundation is built on the relationship between ten-year-old Abdullah and his three-year-old sister Pari and their father's decision to sell her to a childless couple in Kabul, an event that ties the various narratives together. What have I learned from this book? We all know that solitude can give bliss, but Wordsworth here offers an insight unique to him and typical of his searching descriptions of experience by making this inward eye the instrument by which we find bliss in solitude—so much so, indeed, that it in fact is the bliss of solitude. As they endure the ever escalating dangers around them—in their home as well as in the streets of Kabul—they come to form a bond that makes them both sisters and mother-daughter to each other, and that will ultimately alter the course not just of their own lives but of the next generation. Some people could have been mentioned in passing, or not even at all, as opposed to dedicating whole chapters to them, such as Markos and Thalia's story.

There were some very well done parts -some moments that were very beautiful. Turner Five years have passed; five summers, with the length Of five long winters! A stunning accomplishment, A Thousand Splendid Suns is a haunting, heartbreaking, compelling story of an unforgiving time, an unlikely friendship, and an indestructible love. But the poem is nevertheless great, and deeply affecting—emotionally, and intellectually. But it was the will of "allah". Hosseini is massively talented in, works too. Maybe that was why I sensed a connection between us, dim, enfolded in mystery, real nonetheless.
After Amir helps Sohrab win his first kite fight, Sohrab only gives a lopsided smile, but Amir takes it with all his heart as he runs the kite for Sohrab, saying, "For you, a thousand times over" like Hassan did many years ago. I loved The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, but Hosseini just missed the mark with this one. Pari and Abdullah have no sense of the fate that awaits them there, for the event which unfolds will tear their lives apart; sometimes a finger must be cut to save the hand. In both worlds there are characters who are seriously damaged physically and must cope with adapting to worlds that value beauty or at the very least normalcy. It boasts in its short space such compression, beauty, and mystery, you may profitably read it above for yourself.

For this I give the book an enormous 5 stars as we are immersed into the relationships, particularly of the tw 4 stars for a book I loved and an author I would highly recommend.
