One of the most prominent character traits of Abigail is her deceitfulness. Throughout the play, she is shown to be a master at manipulating those around her and lying in order to get what she wants. For example, she falsely accuses Elizabeth Proctor of being a witch in order to get rid of her and take her place as John Proctor's wife. She also fabricates stories about seeing spirits and hearing voices in order to support her accusations of witchcraft and gain attention and power.
Another important character trait of Abigail is her ambition. She is determined to become John Proctor's wife and will stop at nothing to achieve this goal. She even goes as far as to falsely accuse Elizabeth of being a witch in order to get rid of her competition. This ambition is driven by her desire for social status and power, as John Proctor is a wealthy and respected member of the community.
In addition to being deceitful and ambitious, Abigail is also shown to be vengeful and spiteful. She holds grudges against those who have wronged her and will stop at nothing to get revenge. For example, she falsely accuses Mary Warren of being a witch after Mary testifies against her in court. Character Analysis of Abigail Williams
Abigail is beautiful, intelligent, crafty, and vindictive. This deceit and manipulative behavior is the main cause of the hysteria of the Salem Witch Trials. Her primary external conflict would be her love for John. Her motivations and her actions caused by her motives, in the long run, caused turmoil in the lives of John, Elizabeth and Mary Warren. Abigail sees in this an opportunity to turn the hypocrisy of Salem against itself.
The audience knows from Abigail's earlier conversations that these behaviors come from her own independence. The other girls are terrified of witchcraft, and of being found out. She thus orchestrates the behaviour of the girls who follow her blindly in raising the bogey of witchcraft and by involving several innocent citizens in the witch hunt. There is no act that is too bad or too good when going after the loved one. Abigail gives new meaning to the phrase "all is fair in love and war. Some things were the same, but there have been a lot of differences.

Abigail Williams is a main character in The Crucible and historically the major instigator of the Salem Witch Trials. She says, I know how you clutched my back behind your house and sweated like a stallion whenever I came near! She continues pursuing Proctor and ultimately seduces him. Abigail is also the niece to Reverend Parris.
She repeatedly lies to save herself by denying her involvement in witchcraft. I saw Goody Osburn with the Devil! Parris her uncle catches them. . It's a bitter woman, a lying, cold, sniveling woman, and I will not work for such a woman! Although John told Abigail that the affair was over and he would never touch her again, she tried desperately to restore their romance. When Abagail got the chance to have power she is overtaken by the feeling and turned sinister. . The more she thinks about the affair, the more Abigail convinces herself that Proctor loves her but cannot express his love because of Elizabeth. When she meets with John Proctor in the woods, at night, to get close to him, she says that she is frightened of the woods at night. She is successful at making credibility with the court but cannot win Proctor which spoils her plan. While she may only be 11 years old, her manipulative and vengeful personality allows her fool her Uncle and later turns a whole town against each other.
