In this society, happiness is achieved through the use of soma, a drug that provides a temporary escape from reality and all of its problems. Soma is highly addictive and its use is encouraged by the government as a means of control. The society is also conditioned from birth to believe that their predetermined social roles are the key to happiness and fulfillment, and any deviation from these roles is seen as abnormal and unacceptable.
The society is also highly consumerist, with people constantly seeking out new experiences and material possessions in the pursuit of happiness. However, this superficial and shallow happiness is ultimately empty and meaningless, as it does not address the deeper issues and emotions that lie within individuals.
Furthermore, the society's strict adherence to the principles of stability and conformity suppresses individuality and creativity, which are essential components of true happiness. The characters in the novel who do exhibit individuality and creativity, such as the "savage" John and the outsider Bernard, are ostracized and punished by the society.
Ultimately, the happiness in "Brave New World" is a false and artificial construct, created and maintained by the government and consumerism in order to control and manipulate the population. It is a hollow and superficial happiness that sacrifices the well-being and individuality of individuals for the sake of social stability and conformity.
