T.S. Eliot was a 20th century poet, playwright, and literary critic whose works have had a profound and lasting impact on modern literature. Born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1888, Eliot attended Harvard University and later studied at the Sorbonne in Paris and Merton College, Oxford. He worked as a schoolteacher, bank clerk, and publisher's assistant before becoming a full-time writer.
Eliot's early poetry, including "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" and "The Waste Land," was highly influential and helped to establish him as a leading voice in modernist literature. His use of fragmentation, allusion, and myth to explore the disillusionment and despair of the post-World War I era was groundbreaking and resonated with readers around the world.
In addition to his poetry, Eliot also wrote plays and literary criticism. His plays, including "Murder in the Cathedral" and "The Cocktail Party," were well received and continue to be performed today. His criticism, including his essay "Tradition and the Individual Talent," is highly regarded and has had a lasting impact on literary theory.

His last major work of nondramatic poetry was Four Quartets 1943 , a gathering into one volume of four previously published long poems. The best-known adaptations include the 1959 TV series The Return of Eliot Ness, in which Stack returned to the role; a second, short-lived 1993 TV series titled In the Shadow of the Terminal Tower; and comic books such as The Dark City 1987 , depicted Ness's getting hired and undertaking a cleanup of the graft-ridden police force; the second, Butcher's Dozen 1988 , his pursuit of the serial killer known as the Bullet Proof 1989 pitted Ness against labor racketeers intent on taking over Cleveland's food service industry.
