Fallen Angels is a novel by Walter Dean Myers that tells the story of a group of young men who are drafted into the Vietnam War. The novel follows the experiences of these soldiers as they face the challenges and dangers of war, and explores the psychological and emotional toll that the conflict takes on them.

The main character of the novel is Richie Perry, a young African American man from Harlem who is drafted into the war after finishing high school. Despite his reservations about the war, Richie decides to go to Vietnam because he believes it is his duty to serve his country. However, once he arrives in Vietnam, Richie quickly realizes that the war is not what he expected it to be. He is confronted with the harsh realities of combat, including death, injury, and the constant fear of being killed.

As the novel progresses, we see how the war affects each of the soldiers in different ways. Some of them are able to handle the stress and violence of war, while others struggle to cope. One soldier, Peewee, suffers from severe PTSD after witnessing the death of his friend, while another, Jenkins, becomes disillusioned with the war and decides to desert.

Throughout the novel, Myers explores themes of loyalty, friendship, and the effects of war on the human psyche. He shows how the soldiers' experiences in Vietnam shape their views of the world and of themselves, and how they are forced to confront their own mortality and the fragility of life.

Ultimately, Fallen Angels is a powerful and poignant exploration of the human cost of war. It is a must-read for anyone interested in the Vietnam War or the psychological effects of combat on soldiers.

The Greens, femenists, and religious right have merged into a technology-hating coalition bent on preserving the environment, no matter the cost. Some of my comments are a bit negative, but overall this is one of my favourite books which I've re-read several times. . I was drawn in immediately. The plot is setting-based, but only as a catalyst for characters to make their decisions: it's not the end-all, be-all. Aristocrats were hunted, imprisoned and slaughtered.

Fallen Angels Summary

He is a soldier mostly for economic reasons, not because he has a particular position for or against the war. This may be due to the fact that I adored the French, gypsy hero, Gitan. I think I will take a little break though before I crack open the last in the series. They end up getting into a firefight for their very lives. We have a little princess of a heroine whose backbone is forced upon us. This makes wars easy to get into, but extremely difficult to get out of, and once you're in it, there are normally no good options left; every single decision is going to have major cons going along with it. At first it was hard to get my head out of the first book, as the characters in this one have the same names, passed down through the generations.

Good characters are not just good, but gorgeous. This is a much, much darker story than the first book - and I have to say I liked it a little better! It does paint vivid pictures on how war really is and how it works. It also shows a lot of his empathy and ability to make friends with the people in his platoon. I was drawn in immediately. I feel this is a courageous work as I am sure it is unpopular in the arts community.

Boys who want to be soliders or like war will like this book. I don't tend to pick up war books in fact, I've started Sunrise Over Fallujah, also by Walter Dean Myers, about twice and couldn't get past the first ten pages or so , I think because of the inevitability of dying in the book and the notion of soldiers dedicating their lives for something that powers way above them are deciding. A blizzard forces the fans to take shelter in a farm town - where at least one towns-person dies in each blizzard for lack of heating oil. I can sense the power in me growing. I felt bad for some of the racism the characters had to endure, but I wasn't told I needed to. A seventeen year old unfortunately finds himself in the Vietnam War, after being unsure what to do with his life. Forgetable is probably what I am going to be left with on this one.

Fallen Angels (Crowning Mercy, #2) by Bernard Cornwell

It is ironic that real life has turned into the exact opposite of what is in the book with global warming and the conservatives muzzling scientists. Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres and The Fallen Angels had everything a great historical fiction novel should have. Fighting through an army of the undead the Dark Angels find the Terran sorcerers carrying out a ritual with an enormous reaver worm and kill them, but Luther has decided to harness the power of the taint as the Knights of Lupus tried to rather than banish it so he can use it as a weapon against the Emperor. Still, the book is an exciting love-letter to sf fandom. . Quickly the story moved to England for the beginning of it's Regency period. Sar Daviel reveals that a knight he packed up the Knight's of Lupus's library with was the man Ulient who tried to assassinate the Emperor when he came to Caliban and this unlocks the psychic block on Zahariel's memory of the incident placed on him by Chief Librarian Israfael. This secret group call themselves the Fallen Angels, thus the title of the book. The plot is your typical emotional roller coaster. Once I started rolling on it, I finished it in a few hours. What began as an exciting adventure for Richie is turning into a nightmare. The other disappointment is that while the Cornwells appear to have done a lot of research on the Illuminati, there is not much depth to the major historical setting, namely France during the French Revolution. Some of the officers seem competent, while others make him afraid because they don't really seem to know how to protect the squad when they are out on patrol or under fire.
