I watched the movie first. The only reason for two stars is because a few weeks ago I actually read a worse book than this. Such a story for me is PS, I Love You. Ahern, the mediagenic 22-year-old daughter of Ireland's prime minister, debuts with a sweet, sentimental tale of a young widow's trials and triumphs in the year after her husband's death. Holly, the thirty year old heroine, lives in Dublin and loves her life. Regret for the things he never made time to do, the places he never saw, and sorrow for the loss of future experiences.
Each time Holly opens a new note, she feels Gerry within herself. Like reading about your best friend, P. Holly herself is a likable character, very true to life and sympathetic. A while after Gerry's death, Holly finds out he left her ten envelopes to be opened over the next ten months as she is grieving his death. Perhaps if I read the book first I'd say the book was GREAT and the movie was okay. So that was how the joke about the list had come about.
I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading chick lit. That will make things allllll better until Holly gets her ideal job after the first interview she undertakes. PS, I will always love you. Childhood sweethearts, they could finish each other's sentences and even when they fought, they laughed. I'm glad I did. Holly always joked that she would never be able to live without the love of her life Gerry.

I bought the book for my kindle and started reading it that night. If PS, I Love You is any indication of this author's talent, readers have much to look forward to as Ahern matures as a novelist and a storyteller. Everyone needs a guardian angel! She shuffled into the kitchen wearing Gerry's dressing gown and her favorite pink "Disco Diva" slippers, which Gerry had bought her the previous Christmas.

This narrative has amazing characters and moves at a pace that keeps you turning pages while pulling at your heartstrings just enough to get you to turn the page, chapter, until you hit the back cover. Just unwelcoming silences as she stared around at the furniture. I have read all of her books and have never been disappointed. After fifteen years of blissful marriage, the dreams of Gerry and Holly are shattered when Gerry visits the doctor.
