Putong polo, also known as "sticky rice cake," is a traditional Filipino dessert made from glutinous rice, coconut milk, and sugar. It is a popular treat during special occasions such as birthdays, weddings, and holidays.

- 2 cups glutinous rice
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- Banana leaves (optional)
Instructions:
Rinse the glutinous rice until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 30 minutes to soften it.
In a large pot, combine the coconut milk, sugar, and salt. Bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly to dissolve the sugar.
Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot with the coconut milk mixture. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the rice is fully cooked and the liquid has been absorbed.
If using banana leaves, cut them into squares large enough to wrap the rice cakes. Place a square of banana leaf on a flat surface and spoon a small amount of the cooked rice onto the center. Use your hands to shape the rice into a small, round cake. Repeat with the remaining rice and banana leaves.
Wrap the rice cakes in the banana leaves, folding the sides to enclose the rice. Secure the wraps with toothpicks or kitchen twine.
Steam the rice cakes over medium heat for 20-25 minutes, or until they are fully cooked and tender.
Serve the putong polo warm, garnished with grated coconut if desired. They can also be enjoyed cold or at room temperature.
