How can we support the recovery of historical memory without retraumatizing users? These relationships, however, are not without questions. In areas with large West Indian populations, radio stations emerged catering almost exclusively for this group; disseminating information on what is happening back home. But the realities of institutional and political conditions do not always support this timeline. We seek to be inclusive and hope to include work in various languages of the region. For the people who live and work for equality and human rights in the Caribbean, a different picture emerges: one focused on the struggle for social justice. Hundreds of thousands of people died in Haiti in a devastating earthquake in 2010 and many of the survivors remain displaced and homeless, still living in makeshift shelters two years later. I describe how we have built a sustainable partnership between the GAM and Haverford DS team by focusing on collaboratively developing an ethical digitization and descriptive workflow.
