This is the lesson which Jesus taught while He was on earth, that the gift which God promises us, we must believe we do receive, and it is ours. All His promises, His warnings, are but the breathing of unutterable love. He died for us, and now He offers to take our sins and give us His righteousness. The law of God is an expression of his very nature; it is an embodiment of the great principle of love, and hence is the foundation of his government in heaven and earth. No sooner does one come to Christ than there is born in his heart a desire to make known to others what a precious friend he has found in Jesus; the saving and sanctifying truth cannot be shut up in his heart. The things they once hated, they now love; and the things they once loved, they hate. And yet men think it hard to give up all! This love, cherished in the soul, sweetens the life, and sheds a refining influence on all around.
But he failed to do this, and because of his sin our natures are fallen, and we cannot make ourselves righteous. More than this, Christ changes the heart, he abides in your heart by faith. You are as a child born into the family of God, and He loves you as He loves His Son. The confession was forced from his guilty soul by an awful sense of condemnation and a fearful looking for of judgment. We are not God's children unless we are such entirely. They love pleasure and self-indulgence as well as I do. But when the heart yields to the influence of the Spirit of God, the conscience will be quickened, and the sinner will discern something of the depth and sacredness of God's holy law, the foundation of His government in heaven and on earth. The less we see to esteem in ourselves, the more we shall see to esteem in the infinite purity and loveliness of our Saviour. You cannot atone for your past sins; you cannot change your heart and make yourself holy.

The closer you come to Jesus, the more faulty you will appear in your own eyes; for your vision will be clearer, and your imperfections will be seen in broad and distinct contrast to his perfect nature. Everyone, to the extent of his talent and opportunity, is to fulfill the Saviour's commission. The path that before seemed shrouded in darkness, becomes bright with beams from the Sun of Righteousness. You are to maintain this connection with Christ by faith and the continual surrender of your will to him; and so long as you do this, he will work in you to will and to do according to his good pleasure. The contrast will be clear and decided between what they have been and what they are. Those who become new creatures in Christ Jesus will bring forth the fruits of the Spirit, "love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.
But God offers it to you as a gift, "without money and without price. They lament the suffering rather than the sin. Thus our lives will reveal whether the grace of God is dwelling within us. White Chapter 6: Faith and Acceptance 6 Part: A As your conscience has been quickened by the Holy Spirit, you have seen something of the evil of sin, of its power, its guilt, its woe; and you look upon it with abhorrence. Love is of God.
As you draw near to Him with confession and repentance, He will draw near to you with mercy and forgiveness. Here is the true test of discipleship If we abide in Christ and Little children, let no man deceive you; he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as He is righteous. I am ashamed to hear it spoken of, ashamed to write it. When the prophet Daniel beheld the glory surrounding the heavenly messenger that was sent unto him, he was overwhelmed with a sense of his own weakness and imperfection. Every desire for truth and purity, every conviction of our own sinfulness, is an evidence that His Spirit is moving upon our hearts.
But these slavish bands must be broken. Then believe that He does this because He has promised. He invites us to give ourselves to Him, that He may work His will in us. It is true that repentance does precede the forgiveness of sins; for it is only the broken and contrite heart that will feel the need of a Saviour. You will read about His love for you, about repentance, faith and acceptance, growing to be like Him, the privilege of prayer, what to do with doubt, and how to spend your days rejoicing in your best Friend, Jesus. It is yours if you will but reach out your hand and grasp it.
Is repentance to be made an obstacle between the sinner and the Saviour? Every moment of our lives we have been partakers of the blessings of His grace, and for this very reason we cannot fully realize the depths of ignorance and misery from which we have been saved. Who has the heart? A selfish heart may perform generous actions. His heart was open for the Spirit of God to do its gracious work and set him free from the power of sin. Strength comes by exercise; activity is the very condition of life. It is the grace of Christ alone, through faith, We will render the service of love, and obedience will not be a mere outward compliance.
Love to Christ will be the spring of action. This small book has has been printed in more than one hundred and sixty languages, bringing inspiration to thousands of men and women throughout the world. The vain customs and fashions of the world are laid aside. Through this simple act of believing God, the Holy Spirit has begotten a new life in your heart. If we are Christ's, our thoughts are with him, and our sweetest thoughts are of him.

So by what means then, shall we determine whose side we are on? Let every soul copy the Pattern, and become missionaries in the highest sense, winning souls to Jesus. We shall seek to present to them the attractions of Christ and the unseen realities of the world to come. That word presents before you, in the law of God and the life of Christ, the great principles of holiness, without which "no man shall see the Lord.
