Since The Martian isn't interested in the exploitation aspect, that makes it an outlier in the "Mars" canon. Damon, I really do. Firstly, some implausible science how can you grow plants without carbon dioxide in the atmosphere? It's a genuinely brilliant story, however. There are unexpected turns.

The hard part about good science fiction has always been the fiction part. I'm not a Scott fanboy expecting him to wow me his last two films were not great. The story of his fight to survive and the triumph of the human spirit in the face of impossible odds is not a new story, but director Ridley Scott tells it like no other. What parts did you miss? But although the outline offers no surprises, the details and the tone feel new. Although the concept of a modern day Robinson Crusoe marooned on Mars might sound like a depressing proposition, the film's tone never ventures into dark and downbeat territory.
It's just not what you'd expect from a Ridley Scott sci-fi. Matt Damon Rocks I was expecting something like Castaway when I saw the trailer for The Martian and while there are some elements of the Tom Hanks film, Martian totally blows it out of the water. . With the exception of a slightly over-the-top ending, the film mostly avoids the "Hollywood-isms" that sometimes degrade science fiction into futuristic fantasy. Matt Damon is perfectly cast as the wisecracking, yet intelligent astronaut Mark Watney and his positive attitude toward his survival is what keeps us invested in the story. Some might think that a film about the how hostile Mars is to human life would discourage people from ever wanting to go there, much less live there. .
Kristen Wiig seemed an odd choice, but she was good too. His fellow astronauts remain hovering above Mars, beaming their own HD stream to NASA by the use of a magical camera that automatically homes in on Damon regardless of where he is on the planet. And subsequently, it can't quite live up to this compelling start. As Mark talks to himself, he walks us through his processes, showing how, for instance, he re-liquefies dried-out waste and mixes it into arid Martian soil, then inserts halved potatoes into crop furrows and waits for a sprig of green to appear. Henceforth, everyone must call him 'Doctor.
Chiwetel Ejiofor was awesome! In addition to astronaut Mark Watney Matt Damon and mission Captain Melissa Lewis Jessica Chastain , the crew includes pilot Rick Martinez Michael Pena , chemist Alex Vogel Aksel Hennie , and specialists Beth Johanssen Kate Mara and Chris Beck Sebastian Stan. I was hoping this movie would not be an overacted, overproduced and sappy version of the original, and I was pleasantly surprised that the story played out without the overblown extraneous embellishment that Hollywood seems to depend on so often. It appears as nothing ties him there. In the gratuitous scene with his shirt off -- for the ladies -- he looked nothing like an astronaut-cum-botanist and everything like a guy who keeps waiting for someone to offer him the next Bourne film before he hits retirement age. I would give mention to Jessica Chastain and her fine performance as a tough and yet humane leader of her team. In the story, written by Drew Goddard and based on the 2011 novel by Andy Weir, science is the redeemed and the redeemer, the hero and the heroine, the beginning and the end. It's a tale of survival on a barren planet where Matt Damon fights a constant battle NOT against little green men or pew-pew "laser" beams but against the cold and sterile reality of space.
The next Mars mission is not scheduled to arrive for four years and will land 3,000 kilometers from where he is. Mars looks fantastic and everything looks great, but I wasn't able to ever fully get into it like I wanted to. He has to figure out just long enough to get rescued. But in a world ever more monitored, depictions of life beyond borders are often set in space. And finally, perhaps, that the remarkable thing about Apollo 13 is not that its crew could have saved themselves, but that they did: the triumph was not one over the laws of physics, but rather a win against the odds.
Similarly, the grief, and later helplessness, of Watney's fellow Ares 3 crew members - played by Chastain, Kate Mara, Sebastian Stan, Michael PeƱa, and Aksel Hennie - is equally affecting. Watney must find a way to signal back to Earth that he is alive and is in urgent need of rescuing before he runs out of food and water. IMDb members have the right to expect that their "top reviewers" will at the very least watch a movie to the very end, to better review it, whether or not they like it. However, even if Watney can endure 1,000 days of isolation on an alien planet, the botanist must also overcome increasingly life-threatening hurdles as well, specifically: where to get food and water. This movie was based on an astronaut who was left behind on Mars during a mission. Classic Scott-style directing, with its fast pace, yet never leaving emotion behind, keeping you glued to the screen throughout the runtime. Matt Damon was mesmerizing in this movie. Well I just want to reassure you that even though I am among the nerdiest guys on the Internet, I didn't get annoyed from what I saw. A fairly standard 'castaway' plot but one which offers many dramatic possibilities.
This is a very intelligent, crowd-pleasing quality picture from start to finish and you should see it on the big screen if you can. Damon plays an astronaut accidentally marooned on Mars by a storm that literally could not happen because Mars lacks the necessary atmospheric conditions, where he must somehow survive with nothing but an unlimited supply of electricity, an unlimited supply of water, an entirely self- sufficient artificial habitat, half a dozen spare space suits, multiple land vehicles and probes all in perfect working order , food supplies intended for half a dozen people, and a large quantity of magical space potato seedlings that grow to maturity in just a few days despite a complete absence of soil nutrients. They may be unable to appreciate its character focus and slow but undeniable build-up of tension. The story itself is riveting. As I watched, I was reminded of the moral concept of the common good. Likewise, some of the Earth-based scenes, while not openly comedic, are played with a lighthearted sensibility.
