The Mists of Avalon is a historical fantasy novel by Marion Zimmer Bradley, published in 1983. It tells the story of the Arthurian legend from the perspective of the female characters, including the sorceress Morgan le Fay and the queen Guinevere.
The novel begins with the story of Igraine, the mother of King Arthur, and her marriage to the Duke of Cornwall. Igraine is a powerful sorceress and a priestess of the old religion, which worships the Mother Goddess and practices magic. Her husband, the Duke, is a Christian and does not approve of her beliefs.
As the story unfolds, we see the rise of Arthur as the King of Britain and the conflicts that arise between the old religion and the new Christianity. The Mists of Avalon portrays the struggle for power between the two religions as a struggle for the hearts and minds of the people.

It's better to have your mouth sealed shut. There is dialogue, which mostly rehashes things that were already talked about. They go riding one day, only to be attacked by Saxons. Of course, one must not forget that the vein of Fantasy still runs, at least in part, through Austen; and that though those alloys be rarer, still inhabit the edges. The Mists of Avalon. There also seemed to be a whole lot of describing boring day-to-day activities that, just like all the Christian hate, did nothing to advance the plot. But as Christianity gains hold over Britain and more people turn away from the Goddess, this mysterious land becomes difficult for even the faithful to reach.
Arthur, barely alive, is lying in front of her; Morgaine tries to part the mists, but fails. Flatly blaming rude and wretched socialization always seems easier; despite our inability to understand any First Cause. I started it back on October 1st and it was slow going. Those who know me just one tiny bit also know that The Lord of the Rings is my favourite book ever. Former 4 star review.

But soon, Arthur naively reveals that he was the King's Stag at the Beltane feast. In fact, Bradley's deeply troubling views of sex and consent taint this work, as she glorifies incest, promiscuity and rape as part of an idyllic faith free of Christian ignorance. So, when I say that women seem more than men to be capable of breaking the Tolkien Curse laid so thickly upon Modern Fantasy barely proper , it is with trepidation. But because of a misunderstanding, Morgaine, who had thought she would be marrying the king's younger son Accolon, a Druid priest and warrior, finds herself betrothed to Morgaine marries Uriens and moves to Wales, but in time begins an affair with Accolon.
Igraine and Uther do not want Morgaine to go, but Viviane threatens to withdraw Avalon's support of Uther, and Morgaine and Arthur are taken away from Camelot. She is unforgivable to my eyes and my heart, it made me vomit as soon as i found out about her daughter, so this is why i won't read more in this series and of her work but i'll review this book detached from my personal opinions of the author. The brilliant device of placing Avalon halfway between our world and Faerie allowed her to adorn it with structures and a society unknown to archaeology. I wish I could say it was an epic success. Mists features strong women, acting". If you're a fervent religious person, you'll probably hate it.
You might think that my opinion of this book will not be stellar considering it was slow going. There is one main problem with this approach: let's face it, women's lives in the dark ages were pretty boring. One of my favorites, I can read this over and over again. And a lot of people actually agree with this exaggerated, biased, ridiculous nonsense. Mainly because the author molested her own child for years and protected her pedophile husband before No.
Not that the blurb gives away much of this book and not that I was even remotely interested in it, but a review came up on my feed of someone blacklisting this book. Morgaine tells Accolon, who is now Uriens's heir, of the sacred marriage she made with Arthur years before. As a result, the novel remained unpublished, and Bradley demanded the cessation of all Darkover fan fiction. Morgaine, shocked that she'd made passionate love to her own brother, cries in despair and shame. Once I had become established as a writer, we traded ideas and manuscripts. There is certainly something bound in the flesh which drives a breed of dwarfish, ill-socialized, fetish-loving escapists to blindly build and habitate an unoriginal world; and for a further gaggle of the nearly less-talented to consume it ravenously.

Arthur holds out Excalibur, suggesting the Goddess needs an offering. I mean if you wanted to write a book in which the antagonists were all evil Christians then you're on the right track, but this was supposed to be a book on King Arthur, dang it, not of your personal hate issues with Christians. Arthur then happily reunites with Morgaine. Lock yourself away in a room to prevent yourself from having contact with objects or living creatures that may be associated with wrongdoers. Impressed by his cleverness, the Saxons name him Mordred "Evil Counsel".
The Mists of Avalon. Over and over, female characters ponder the unfairness of life in a patriarchal society. If anyone has anyone more information on this or if I am wrong on any counts, please let me know. In addition to her novels, Mrs. Gwenhwyfar was worse than Igraine.
