The Murder of Roger Ackroyd is a crime novel written by British author Agatha Christie, first published in 1926. It is the third novel featuring detective Hercule Poirot and is widely regarded as one of Christie's best works.
The story takes place in the village of King's Abbot, where wealthy widower Roger Ackroyd is found murdered in his study. Ackroyd's death is initially treated as a suicide, but Poirot, who has recently moved to the village, becomes suspicious and begins to investigate.
As Poirot gathers evidence and interviews suspects, he discovers that the real killer is someone who had appeared to be a bystander in the case, a revelation that comes as a shock to both the reader and the other characters.
