I liked this one, but I did want more character development and I wish the ending wasn't so perfect. This book deals with lawyers, bad marriages, and the value of good friendship in a cruel and lonely world. This is the main conflict of the novel. Thus fisticuffs and madcap chases are largely absent, rendering the novel as a thriller in which the hero thinks his way out of trouble instead of punching or blasting his way out. In contrast with his previous legal thrillers, which usually set in the courtroom; The Partner is set just about everywhere else. I didn't realize this was background for a series of books about this attorney, Sebastian Rudd. I'm guessing that's not true here.
