Hanna begins to teach herself to read, and then write in a childlike way, by borrowing the books from the prison library and following the tapes along in the text. They develop a practice of bathing and having sex, before which she frequently has him read aloud to her, especially classical literature, such as The Lady with the Dog. Revolutionary Road, which also stars Winslet. A few months later, a fragrant bouquet of flowers and an inadvertent glimpse of Hanna's silken undergarments lays the ground for an unexpected, passionate summer-long affair, accompanied by the life-changing ritual of having Michael narrate the classics to her. Supporting performances from the likes of Bruno Ganz and Lena Olin also excel. After 18 years, Hanna is about to be released, so he agrees after hesitation to find her a place to stay and employment, visiting her in prison. It's so good as a fictional story that it feels like it could be a true one. It is in these moments that Michael, wounded years earlier by Hannah, acts out of his woundedness and responds similarly. A synopsis for a comedy should make the reader laugh, while a horror movie should put the reader in suspense. In 1966, a Hanna, unlike her co-defendants, admits that Hanna's co-defendants then all lie that she was in charge, and that she wrote the report.
