Each main character experiences a feeling of expectation from either within themselves, from others, or a cultural norm. His name is John Thomas and he is the talk of the town. My husband hates and distrusts me, my neighbors are spies and malicious busybodies, my children are grown and don't want me around, and my life in general is awful. Later we did just that in his little roomette. And the points across was also nice and clearly delivered: the culture change, the bleak facet of industrialism, women's standings -due or not due to the war- , are some of them. We did have coffee and met like that, but it was all in innocence, with no romantic affair.

Stereotypes produced by the social world at times can lead to ignorance as well as bring light to how wrong the misconceptions are compared to the truth. I knew I would need to pay extra for both big bags, but also knew that I just couldn't bear to leave anything behind to come back to get. The stereotype of the passive female is challenged straight away with the positioning of women in key positions in the tram service as conductors. Tom did manage to stop at the vending machine in the bus depot's lobby, but all there was, was stale looking little doughnuts. H Lawrence also uses a lot of dialogue in this story. John Thomas Raynor is an inspector on the trams and Annie Stone is a conductress. But, conversely these images could also indicate a certain sense of simplicity within the object; it is not needlessly ornate.
