The third book in the Hunger Games series, entitled "Mockingjay," picks up where the second book, "Catching Fire," left off. The main character, Katniss Everdeen, has just been rescued from the Hunger Games arena and is now living in the underground district of District 13.
In "Mockingjay," the story shifts from the brutal arena battles of the Hunger Games to the political intrigue and rebellion against the Capitol, the tyrannical government that controls the districts. As the symbol of the rebellion, Katniss becomes the "Mockingjay," a symbol of hope for the districts as they fight against the Capitol's oppressive rule.
One of the major themes of "Mockingjay" is the cost of war. As Katniss and the rebels fight against the Capitol, they see firsthand the destruction and loss of life that war brings. Katniss struggles with the weight of her role as the Mockingjay and the guilt of being responsible for the lives lost in the rebellion.
Another theme in "Mockingjay" is the power of propaganda and the manipulation of media. The Capitol uses propaganda to manipulate the districts and maintain control, while the rebels use the Mockingjay as a symbol to spread their message and gain support. Katniss becomes a pawn in this propaganda war, as she is used to promote the rebellion's cause and sway public opinion.
In addition to the themes of war and propaganda, "Mockingjay" also explores the themes of survival and resilience. Throughout the series, Katniss has shown her determination to survive and protect those she cares about. In "Mockingjay," she must continue to fight for survival, both physically and emotionally, as she navigates the dangerous world of the rebellion and deals with the trauma of the Hunger Games.
Overall, "Mockingjay" is a powerful and poignant conclusion to the Hunger Games series. It explores complex themes of war, propaganda, survival, and resilience through the eyes of its main character, Katniss Everdeen.
Mockingjay (Book 3 of The Hunger Games Trilogy): Mockingjay: Book 3 of the Hunger Games Book Summary & Study Guide
So she did a little thing like shooting President Coin. Now, many people will say her breakdown is more true to life, and it's what any normal 17-year-old girl would feel and go through. I think that unfulfilled wish is, at the end of the day, why I'm feeling this way right now. I want to read about someone who's a bit special, who's different, who displays traits like courage, heart, perseverance greater than the norm and accomplishes more than the "normal, average teen" even during the most difficult of times. Afterwards, the districts used the birds to feed the Capitol a bunch of lies, and the birds were abandoned to die off in the wild. I'm sorry, I know that life doesn't always turn out well, but dammit, Suzanne Collins, you put us through the wringer with the last two books. Finally, I could root for him.

District 3
Sometimes I just had to close the book for a while and breathe because I needed to stop for a bit, to regroup myself so I could get through a certain part. Gale never showed up in this book, not the intense Gale hiding a painful love for Katniss that I loved. . Okay, we get it after reading about it the WHOLE novel! I wish Collins took more time to work it to perfection, like she did with the first two. Worse yet, I fear this may just have been a result of Snow's manipulation, not her own decision. District 13 really does exist.

So yes, I am eating my words and saying Katniss ended up with the right person. I'm also sad, and a little confused. That you can't prepare for it -- you can only hope to avoid it. It's one of the best movies I've seen in a very, very long time. The very end is boring and pointless for ages, her sitting in her house doing nothing then suddenly the book is finished.

She also sees herself on television and notes how desperate she looked when trying to save Prim. In a harsh war world, you need someone strong and skilled by your side. Don't think I don't know how this might end. Retrieved November 21, 2014. If the point was to get us to feel the crazy, disorienting mess, that perhaps Katniss went through, then mission accomplished!!! I wasn't let down by Catching Fire though; I figured it was just a transition novel, build-up to what would undoubtedly SPOILERS AHEAD!! SERIOUSLY, WHAT THE FUCK KIND OF AN ENDING IS THAT? I'm not sure if I'm shell-shocked or simply worn out by the intensity of it all.

The Hunger Games Chapter 3 Summary & Analysis
In Mockingjay, all these traits are scrapped and we get a Katniss-clone who is angsty and bitchy and whiny wasn't Bella in Twilight bad enough? Luckily, when he got out he ran off into the sunset and lived happily ever after. The ending shows that the abuse of power is not contained to one person, but often the systems that give them unfair power. Retrieved December 1, 2015. There is such a big game going on and Katniss' motivations and actions don't always make sense to me. Retrieved August 26, 2014. She doesn't care about the Mockingjay, or all the stupid TV spots they do, or anything really.

What happens in the 3rd Hunger Games?
Everything, from Katniss's clothes which she's weirdly fixated with to her circular, drier-than-Egyptian-sand inner monologues were painstakingly pored over to the point of ridiculousness. I'd also highly doubt that this would come of any shock to Peeta. . But that only works when there's an underlying message of hope and of optimism. But I feel like she lost her way in this book. Coin adds, however, that should Katniss deviate from her Mockingjay role, immunity will be revoked and all tributes, including Katniss, will be subject to the laws of District 13. There's also the writing, which is so overwrought - it's not even like the author took the sparseness of the first book and butchered it.

Probably the best ten pages of the series. Some kind of desire to be a better person. During another live Capitol programming, in which Snow and a very battered and fragile-looking Peeta appear together, Beetee is able to break through the Capitol feed to broadcast clips of the rebel propos. I had a number of problems with the book - 1. She wonders if she would do more damage than good. Mockingjay: The Hunger Games, Book 3 Book Review
And finally, the words were true. For Effie, as for others in the Capitol, appearances are very important. It describes this book perfectly. This book seriously dragged and dragged and dragged, and just got slower and slower until everyone started dropping dead towards the last quarter of the book. I realize she's only 16, but she's also a 16-year old who has literally been supporting her family.

The Hunger Games author Collection 3 Books Box Set By Suzanne Collins
I've seen both of the other movies for this series, and while I enjoyed them greatly, the third instalment was on another level entirely. Everything she did was for show, for a propo or campaign or whatever. Katniss is sixteen years old and she's been in two Hunger Games, fighting against twenty-odd opponents to the death. As did her constant use of arrows in futuristic combat. The districts are isolated from each other to prevent an additional rebellion. This is day 3 of my Hunger Games binge after I watched the last movie last Saturday without knowing anything about the books and not having watched any of the movies. Have you read Beartown by Fredrik Bachman? But even in this aspect of her life, she didn't get to CHOOSE, which is basically the story of her life.
