Devil in a Blue Dress is a mystery novel written by Walter Mosley and published in 1990. The story follows the experiences of Easy Rawlins, a black man living in Los Angeles in the late 1940s, who is drawn into a web of deceit and violence while searching for a missing white woman.

At the beginning of the novel, Easy is struggling to make ends meet and is in desperate need of money. He is approached by a wealthy white man named DeWitt Albright, who offers him $100 to find a woman named Daphne Monet. Easy takes the job, hoping that it will provide a much-needed financial boost. However, as he begins his search, he quickly realizes that there is more to this case than meets the eye.

As Easy delves deeper into the mystery, he encounters a cast of colorful characters, including Daphne's dangerous ex-husband, a corrupt police detective, and a beautiful woman named Coretta, who becomes a love interest for Easy. Along the way, Easy must navigate the treacherous world of Los Angeles' black community, where he is constantly confronted with racism and violence.

Despite the many challenges he faces, Easy is determined to find Daphne and bring her home safely. In the process, he discovers that Daphne is not who he thought she was and that he has been caught up in a web of intrigue and deceit that extends far beyond his initial search for her.

Overall, Devil in a Blue Dress is a gripping and suspenseful novel that explores themes of race, identity, and the search for truth. Its complex and well-developed characters, as well as its vivid depiction of post-war Los Angeles, make it a must-read for fans of mystery and crime fiction.
