The song "Dreaming Tree" by Dave Matthews Band is a beautiful and poetic ode to the natural world. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of the wonders of the natural world and the importance of taking the time to appreciate and connect with it.
The song begins with the lines "I climbed up on a dreaming tree / To see the world pass by / And I watched the people walking / Walking on their way." These lines suggest that the narrator has retreated to a place of solitude and contemplation, climbing up into a tree to get a better view of the world. From this perch, the narrator observes the hustle and bustle of human life, but also recognizes the beauty and simplicity of the natural world.
The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "The dreaming tree / The dreaming tree / The dreaming tree / Is where I want to be." This refrain serves as a reminder of the importance of taking time to connect with the natural world and to find peace and tranquility in the present moment. The dreaming tree represents a place of escape from the stresses and distractions of modern life, a place where one can simply be and find solace in the beauty of the natural world.
The second verse of the song further explores the themes of nature and connection, with the lines "I saw a river rushing by / And I saw a hawk take flight / And I saw the leaves all turning / Turning in the night." These lines capture the majesty and power of the natural world, as well as the cyclical nature of life. The river rushing by and the hawk taking flight both convey a sense of movement and change, while the leaves turning in the night suggest the passing of time and the changing of the seasons.
Overall, the lyrics of "Dreaming Tree" are a powerful tribute to the beauty and importance of the natural world. Through vivid imagery and thoughtful lyrics, the song encourages listeners to take the time to connect with nature and find peace and tranquility in the present moment.

Feb 24th 2009 Dave says himself that the meanings of his songs change over time. I can't find my way home, there is no place to hide The dreaming tree has died! Jun 13th 2019 First of all, this is and probably will always be my favorite DMB song for a couple reasons. This thing I do I do not deny it All through this smile as crooked as danger I do not deny I know in my mind I would leave you now if I had the strength to I would leave you up to your own devices Will you not talk? I don't ask much But won't you speak, please? His name is nathan, and a book is written about his amazing story. At the age of sixteen I grew out of hope I regarded the cosmos through a circle of rope So I threw out my plans, ran on to the wheel And emptied my head of all childish ideals The sleep of no feeling The sleep of no being The sleep of no dreaming The sleep of no dreaming I married the first girl who wasn't a man And smiled as the spiders ran all over my hands The sleep of no feeling The sleep of no being The sleep of no dreaming The sleep of no dreaming Made a good living by dying, it's true As the world in my TV leaks onto my shoes The sleep of no feeling The sleep of no being The sleep of no dreaming The sleep of no dreaming. Throughout the rest of 2004 and into 2005, the band played as many shows as they could, all whilst continuing to write new music, with an amassed total of over 30 songs. Aug 20th 2011 I'm going to say that he is trying to tell everyone that you have you dreams in life and sometimes they die off but to always remember those dreams and if you really believe in them never give up on them.
The result of a more measured approach to crafting music sees the new album move forward a step in sophistication, yet all the while still retaining the essence of variety that makes the band what it is. Can you take pity? This thing I do I do not deny it All through this smile As crooked as danger I do not deny I know in my mind I would leave you now If I had the strength to I would leave you up To your own devices Will you not talk? He sings all his songs with a lot of heart and soul but this song stood out to me. So all of you could be right. I personally think the dreaming tree is like a comfort blanket when you are growing up. Standing here the old man said to me "Long before these crowded streets Here stood my dreaming tree" Below it he would sit for hours at a time Now progress takes away what forever took to find And now he's falling hard he feels the falling dark How he longs to be beneath his dreaming tree Conquered fear to climb a moment froze in time When the girl who first he kissed promised him she'd be his Remembered mother's words there beneath the tree "No matter what the world, you'll always be my baby" Mommy come quick the dreaming tree has died The air is growing thick a fear he cannot hide The dreaming tree has died Oh have you no pity? The dreaming tree has died. Personally I feel that this song is about losing memorable places and important people and things of sentiment in our lives.
