In 1848, Lucy attended the Seneca Falls Convention, which is often considered the birthplace of the women's rights movement in the United States. She was a member of the National American Woman Suffrage Association (NAWSA) and served as the organization's president from 1892 to 1900. In addition to her work with the NAWSA, Lucy also served as the president of the New York State Woman Suffrage Association and was involved in numerous other organizations that promoted women's rights.
