The documentary follows four babies and their families from when they are first born as they grow up and are able to walk. I know you can't create art in a vacuum, and all documentaries are influenced by the documentarian. Whether the setting is grassy plain, tribal village or kids classes, the four babies start gurgling and gaping as visiting otherworldly creatures.
In most of Africa, it is common for extended family to live in the same house so parenting can be to the biological and non-biological children. Bayar's older brother, maybe two years old or so, was clearly incensed at his displacement, and he took his anger out on Bayar, with pretty much no intervention from any adults including whoever was filming. In the one clip shown of Hattie at home, she is with her mother in a bed looking quite comfortable with her surroundings. The infants that were raised in the rural environments were often left to wander and explore the world on their own. According to Balmes, the four babies experienced differently with their caregivers, which had a distinct impact on language development. The documentary shows us many similarities and a lot more differences of the lives of these babies based on their cultures.
We didn't see much of the fathers, but I did enjoy seeing some of the older kids, boys and girls, who were entirely comfortable around the babies and the mothers. According to the American Montessori Society there are more than 4000 Montessori schools in the United States. I just love going to the movies. These babies are from, Namibia, Japan, California, and Mongolia. Ponijao seemed to be very content with her surroundings. For this analysis, I chose the Babies documentary and have decided to focus on Hattie, the baby born in San Francisco. Maybe I'll post a review after I've seen it, too.
