Watching it makes you feel like you were actually there when it happened. But lastly, the most important for him was to give his country the freedom and justice until the end of his life. José Protasio Rizal Mercado y Alonso Realonda, an important person in the history of the Philippines and an icon that we can find in every history books in our country. Upon hearing Rizal's life story, Taviel begins to realize that the accused not just is innocent but exhibits in fact all the qualities of an extraordinary man.

As the two novels spread throughout the Philippines, a certain and somewhat unassuming character in the name of Andres Bonifacio grabs a hold of a copy of a Rizal novel and instigates a rebellion with his founded Katipunan which upheld a full-blown revolution. These aspects only prove how intelligent and gifted Rizal is even more when he wrote literary articles to attack the Spanish oppressors in the Philippines. This plan was made by Paciano, with this strategy, Rizal will able to move freely, study and convince the Spanish Government about the abuses happening in the Philippines, while Paciano and his family struggle against the Spanish rules. It is there that he meets the love of his life, Josephine Bracken, although the movie does not devote much attention to this love affair. Behind that minute physique of his, is a man that was full of courage and bravery. But it is to no avail. What makes Rizal different? Paciano does not give any information on whether Rizal was the source of rebellion or not and was continued to be tortured, only to find out that he was already captured by the Spaniards later on.
