The Blind Side is a 2009 sports drama film that tells the true story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized black teenager who is taken in by a wealthy white family, the Tuohys. With the help of his new family and a supportive coach, Oher becomes a successful football player and earns a full scholarship to play for the University of Mississippi.

The film explores themes of family, friendship, and the power of education and hard work. At its core, The Blind Side is a story about the transformative power of love and support. The Tuohys, who are initially wary of Oher, come to see him as a member of their family and go above and beyond to help him succeed. Oher, in turn, learns the value of hard work and determination, and is able to overcome the many challenges he has faced in his life.

The film also highlights the role that education plays in helping people overcome adversity. Oher is initially struggling in school, but with the help of his tutor, Leigh Anne Tuohy, he is able to excel academically and earn a full scholarship to play football at a top university. Education is portrayed as a path to a better future, and the film encourages viewers to prioritize learning and self-improvement.

One of the most powerful aspects of The Blind Side is the way it portrays the bond between Oher and the Tuohys. Despite their differences in background and wealth, the two families come together to form a close-knit and supportive community. This is a poignant reminder of the importance of family and the power of love and acceptance to overcome adversity.

Overall, The Blind Side is a heartwarming and inspiring story that highlights the transformative power of love, education, and hard work. It encourages viewers to embrace diversity, embrace opportunities for personal growth, and to never underestimate the power of a supportive community.

It was still a powerful story, but I definitely preferred the movie. Michael that the football coach never achieved: Mimi should really get to know your players. And his portrayal of the Tuohy family never wavers from supportive. Though these events did not occur simultaneously, Lewis connects them as if they were meant to go hand in hand. It was very inspirational. Now, let me explain. This would be a perfect read for someone who loves football, or is trying to learn more about the sport.

Hoop Dreams detailed the machine built around taking poor black athletes from the inner city and sticking them into primarily white school systems that only cared about those athletes to the extent that they would help their sports teams win. Woven into the story of Michael Oher is the development of the importance of the left tackle in professional football. Lewis uses the facts of Oher's life parallel with notable changes in the National Football League NFL. But, it's about football in the way that I almost gave this five stars. Lewis' ambivalence translates onto the pages of the book and therefore on to us as readers. Lewis toggles back and forth between the story of Michael Oher and the history, importance, and story behind the left tackle position in football. .

I didn't "get it" at all until my husband had me watch the movie, "The Big Short," based on Lewis' book of the same name. My boyfriend ex-boyfriend is hopelessly obsessed with football, and keeps trying to get me into it, with little success. But the story he told here was beautiful. Just like that, most foster children do the same thing because they are not communicated with. Now, let me explain. You get a better sense of who these people really were.

Two leadership lessons in that story: Leaders have to know what makes their people tick. He takes up football and school after a rich, white, Evangelical family plucks him from the streets. The book seemed to read more like a documentary in my opinion and I rather watch a documentary then read one. It sort of gave an extra personal connection for me as that was the position I played in my State Championship high school football team. I read somewhere that he wasn't completely happy with the way he was portrayed in this book. This is difficult to admit publicly, but there it is.

How you love and communicate with and for the child is what brings him or her closer to you and your family. Football, to me, just seems to be a very long game of fat-man tag. Michael is meant to stand in for so much of what is happening in this country in terms of race and economics, and, while large though he may be, he isn't big enough to tell this story unless Lewis cuts off these annoying details and nuances. Leigh Anne Tooth: What? And in some ways, maybe they were. This is the story of a black kid from the country's third poorest zip code in Memphis who was adopted by a wealthy white family they own their own jet and with lots of support from the father of a son and from coaches and teachers and tutors played football at Old Miss and made it to the NFL and multi-million dollar contracts. I found a new perspective in relating it to this weeks assignment.

She could have fought the rules on the grounds of Michaels exceptional hardships and exceptional talents. Management addresses weaknesses — Grades, fitness, knowledge of the sport, trust, ace of aggression. So I absolutely loved the movie The Blind Side, I've seen it many many times and that's saying something because I hate sports. Together, it adds up to something fishy. Interest in this book which contains all of the above? Despite being a cheerleader for 3 years, having a football obsessed father and then marrying a football obsessed man, I'm still totally and completely bored by the game.

So my wife and I went this weekend, and we were truly blindsided by a film abundantly rich in its humanity and unabashedly Christian in its underpinnings a modern day object lesson in Luke 10:25-37 and Matthew 25:31-47. But when talking of about a black investment banker, he isn't written as "a rich black banker", instead he is merely described as being from Washington, D. . To apply this in the most ridiculous way, above the high school level, a baseball team would not have its star starting pitcher play the position of catcher or shortstop on days when he is not pitching. Michael Lewis is a gifted reporter and I plan to read more of his books. For anybody who has seen the movie portrayal of the book and has an interest in football, I would deem this book a "must read". She displays the value of Sleekness Day lending Enamel a tremendous amount AT Nell.

I didn't "get it" at all until my husband had me watch th Let me start this review by pointing out the obvious: This book is NOT the feel-good movie starring Sandra Bullock as the force-of-nature LeighAnn Tuohy I'm downplaying the fact that it celebrates a white "savior" for a troubled Black boy. Yes, I find myself rooting for Michael Oher to make it in the NFL, but mainly because I feel that if he doesn't, the life that these people have given him will seep away, and he'll be back on the streets from which he was rescued. Let me start this review by pointing out the obvious: This book is NOT the feel-good movie starring Sandra Bullock as the force-of-nature LeighAnn Tuohy I'm downplaying the fact that it celebrates a white "savior" for a troubled Black boy. I'd been curious about the Racism vs. I read this after seeing the movie version and was amazed that many of the precious details I assumed had been invented by Hollywood writers were real and actually happened. Analysis of the game's after all, Evolution of the Game is its subtitle progression and how it's changed the very shape of the players who play it runs through out and provides a nice base from which to play off the Oher example. With that being said, I hate football, and that is why this book didn't do it for me.
